Mindfulness - What is it to be Mindful? – ATP Science

Mindfulness

Schools are where children learn, grow, heal, build community, and practice new ways of being. At Hummingbird Elementary we are committed to helping our students cultivate awareness, resilience and compassion through the practice of Mindfulness. All our students are introduced to the concept of mindfulness and regularly practice mindfulness skills.

Developing a Professional GROWTH Mindset: 6 Steps | Learning Sciences International

Growth Mindset

At Hummingbird Elementary we introduce students from as early as Preschool to the concept of mindsets.

The concept of mindsets revolves around the idea that individuals hold either a “fixed mindset” or a “growth mindset.” These mindsets can significantly impact a student’s approach to learning and achievement.

A fixed mindset is when a student believes their abilities and intelligence are static traits, leading them to avoid challenges to protect their self-image. They may feel discouraged by setbacks and tend to compare themselves to others.

On the other hand, a growth mindset is when a student believes that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, learning, and perseverance. Students with a growth mindset embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and improve. They are more resilient in the face of setbacks and understand that progress takes time.

Encouraging a growth mindset in students is important, as it helps them develop a positive attitude towards learning, fosters resilience, and enhances their overall motivation. As a school,  we nurture a growth mindset in our students through building classroom culture, providing growth mindset challenges and activities and actively encouraging students to try and try again with this we aim to foster a love for learning and a willingness to embrace challenges!

The No-Fault Classroom - PuddleDancer Press

The No Fault Classroom

Students from STD 1 up are introduced to the No Fault Classroom Program.

This programs posts a radically new understanding of the root of conflict – UNMET NEEDS.

This analysis boldly directs students and teachers to recognize feelings as important messengers of those needs. Refocusing attention from feelings to the needs behind the feelings addresses the underlying problem rather than the symptom; with this objective, the concept of the “No–Fault Zone” is introduced. It is a place in the classroom free from criticism or blame where students learn trust and respect for one another, develop successful conflict-resolution skills, and the responsibility for resolution shifts from teacher to students.

This is a complete and comprehensive conflict resolution skills based curriculum based in the tenants of non-violent communication.

Mesa is following the Random Acts of Kindness Curriculum

Kindness Curriculum

The Kindness in the Classroom® program was created to integrate intentional kindness skill building with the development of social and emotional competencies. The lessons include six kindness concepts which, when used consistently, provide students a scaffold to build the necessary skills to move from self-awareness to action.

At Hummingbird Elementary practicing and teaching Kindness skills is important to us, and we celebrate the skills we learn throughout the year with our Kindness Month festivities in February!
