In 1983 Hummingbird Infant School, under Mrs. Vasantha Ponnambalam’s direction as principal, opened its doors with five students. By the end of that year the school had grown to eighteen children. The vision then was to create an environment, which would be safe and spacious, with limited enrollment in each class, giving each child quality time with the teacher. This would preserve the individuality of the students and allow them to reach their full potential – intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially.

The mission of Hummingbird Elementary School is to provide an educational environment in Belize of such excellence that when students have completed their primary schooling they will leave with a desire to become life-long learners and responsible citizens who are prepared to face a challenging world.

Welcome Back to School

Hummingbird Elementary School opens its doors for the new school year on MONDAY AUGUST 23rd. at 8:00 A.M.  We look forward to our new students and to our returning students for the school year 2010/2011.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Another school year has begun.  We see and hear all the excitement and anxiousness that fills the school grounds. Some cling to their parents while others are all too happy to let go, to come back to play and learn with their friends, old and new.  It is back to routine, being focused and dedicated to learn what our teachers have prepared and planned to teach.  We wish all the students of Hummingbird Elementary School another successful school year 2010 - 2011.

Hummingbird School says thank you.....

On June 5th, a Dinner and Dance was held in the Pavilion Hall at Old Belize.  The Event was well attended and enjoyed by all. Hummingbird Elementary School sends a hearty thank you to the Parent Planning Committee for organizing, putting the event together, contributing your valuable time, and executing the plan. Thank you to all the Parents of Hummingbird School who purchased tickets, contributed items and attended the event.  

VARIETY SHOW 2010

On Sunday, May 30th, 2010, Hummingbird Elementary School held its annual Variety Show at the Bliss Center for Performing Arts.  Children from Infant 1 through Standard VI performed on stage.  The children performed well.    The stage was colorful, and filled with excitement as the children danced, sang, and  recited. 

We thank all the teachers including Ms. Coye and Mr. Sanchez of Hummingbird Elementary for their time and dedication in working along with the children.

SPORTS DAY 2010

On Sunday, April 18th, Hummingbird Elementary School had its annual sports day at the ITVET compound.  The event was well attended.  There were lots to eat and drink.  Children and parents alike had a great time.  Kids got their faces painted and jumped around in the bouncy house. There were snow cones on sale for those who needed to cool off from the heat.   Once again we thank the Sports day parent planning committee for all their organizing, time and effort to make this event a success.  We would like to thank all other parents who helped out in the stands, to all the parents who contributed food items and other contributions in any other form.

Yearbook Winner Siian Rancharan (front cover)

Yearbook Winner Siera Garbutt (back cover)

Hummingbird Elementary School is coming out with its second issue of School Yearbook. The children were given the opportunity to submit their art and also to have a chance to let that art be displayed on the covers of the yearbook. Siian Rancharan of Standard VI will get the opportunity to display his artwork on the front cover of the Yearbook. Siian's artwork shows hands holding up the Hummingbird School Emblem. His artwork depicts Hummingbird School's strive for Excellence. Siera Garbutt's artwork depicts peace and unity.  Siera, a Standard IV student, drew the flambouyant tree that is planted in the front yard and underneath the tree, the children hold hands around the tree.  A hummingbird is seen flying overhead bringing the peace sign in its beak.  Siian has won $150 plus his art will be displayed on the front cover of the 2010 school yearbook and Siera has won  $100.00 plus her art will be displayed on the back cover of the yearbook.
